Desensitizing toothpaste: The active ingredients present like potassium nitrate or Strontium chloride are helpful in sealing of microtubules present in the exposed dentine like exposed nerve root surface because of toothbrush abrasion. It is advisable that the desensitizing toothpaste should be used under advice of dental specialist. It is not safe for children.
Hypersensitivity of teeth is wide spread among all categories of persons in some persons it is a chronic condition causing hot and cold foods sensitivity. The problem is associated with receding of gums. The gum tissues provide a protective cover around the nerve roots of teeth. With the receding of gum tissues, the nerve roots are now exposed due to absence of enamel protection. There are numerous minute dentine tubules leading to the nerve center situated in the tooth pulp.
Mouth wash is a pleasantly flavoured antibacterial solution, which is available in 150 to 175 ml bottle. Two teaspoonfuls of the solution is to be poured in 150 ml of warm water and gargled repeatedly so that bacteria present in the mouth are exposed to the antibacterial action of the mouthwash which is effective for 8 hours. Thus use of mouth wash in the morning and in the evening after meals keeps the oral cavity free from bacterial activities.
